The Independence Museum, Kilmurry
The Terence MacSwiney Weekend will begin with an opening address on Friday night, October 22nd, by Dr Cathal MacSwiney Brugha at St Mary’s Church, Kilmurry at 7:30pm.
The lecture series will take place in The Independence Museum on Saturday 23rd October from 10:30am:
- Dr John Borgonovo, Lecturer at the School of History, UCC will speak about the context and implications of the hunger strike
- John Mulcahy, Local Historian, Blarney Historical Association ‘The Cork hunger strikes August 11th-Nov 12th 1920’
- Gabriel Doherty, Lecturer at The School of History, UCC ‘Press coverage of the hunger strike in Cork and Brixton’
- Anne Twomey, Local Historian and author, Shandon Area History Group ‘The personal price of patriotism-reflections on the human costs of the 1920 hunger strikes’
Sunday 24th October ‘94 days: The Longest Hunger Strike, Cork and Brixton, 1920’ exhibition.
Tickets for the Terence MacSwiney Weekend are available from The Independence Museum Kilmurry. The €25 price covers admission to Friday night’s opening address, Saturday’s conference (including lunch), and a preview of the new ‘94 days: The Longest Hunger Strike, Cork and Brixton, 1920’ exhibition. There is a discounted ticket price of €20 for paid up members. Please contact the museum at KHAAMuseum@gmail.com or 021 7336932 to pre-book a ticket. You can pay at the weekend or call to the museum earlier to collect and pay.
